ABOUT
Añamarié America Edwards
Anamarie Edwards received her BFA in New Studio Practice from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Milwaukee and her Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Studio Art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts, Boston. When Anamarie Edwards emerged from the Post Baccalaureate program she was considered a pioneer in world building and conceptual installation. Her passions around identity, black history, and representation drive her interdisciplinary arts practice. Edwards’ art is self-analyzing, focusing on the ways in which personal and collective histories helped shape her identity. She works to engage with cultural narratives in order to offer a space for reflection on strength, resilience, and the contradictions that coexist within communities and individuals. Edwards’ creative process is grounded in the belief that art can preserve a variety of true histories while simultaneously housing different perspectives of any narrative. Through her art, she invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences as well and engage with the universal themes of change, memory, archival history, and transformation. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, and she continues to push the boundaries of her artistic practice, exploring new ways to represent the complexity of the black American experience.

She is now self employed and working on numerous creative projects.

Solo show
"The James Watrous Gallery is dedicated to celebrating Wisconsin artists. Located on the third floor of Overture Center for the Arts in downtown Madison, the Watrous focuses on solo exhibits by contemporary Wisconsin artists and curated shows that reflect the Wisconsin Academy's interest in drawing connections between art and other disciplines. The gallery's exhibitions and events often connect with themes explored through Wisconsin Academy Talks, Initiatives, and in the pages of Wisconsin People & Ideas. Most exhibitions are curated through a juried open call for artists and guest curators, which is held every three-four years. The most recent open call was offered in early 2023. "
